I am a first cousin to Debbie Cohen, wife of the late Dr. Ami Cohen who founded SACH. Our extended family has remained close for much longer then my 60 years. I think of and remember Ami every single day, and not because he founded SACH. I think of the way he inspired everyone who knew him, simply by the strength of his moral and ethical character which guided every moment of his life. No matter the circumstance, somehow just his presence was sometimes enough to influence others to "do what's right". His seemingly unselfish lifestyle and the way he genuinely lived to help others "simply because he could", helped others find purpose and hope where none was before. It was very clear that he truly felt honored and privileged to be able to help those who couldn't help themselves. This was perhaps the greatest pleasure of his life, and that basic morality that led him through life, radiated around him wherever he went. I remember that whenever he came back to the US for visits, one of the many reasons he came always seemed to include finding out about the latest techniques and technologies of his trade here, so that he could teach them to his associates, thus making his entire team more effective in their work. I believe he truly felt uplifted by doing God's work, so one could say he was being both selfish and selfless simultaneously. And just like the other Doctors at SACH today, he found the time when he was in the US to speak to philanthropic audiences in order to help raise funds so that SACH could continue, and grow. I miss him dearly, though I still feel his presence everywhere.

What do you think about SACH?

Having had the honor of meeting some of SACH's leading Surgeons when they've visited the US, I must say that I am awed by their genuine, loving personalities, and by their equally genuine desire to expand the work that SACH does. "To save a life is to save a world". What else can I say?
